MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. To provide a range of clinical activities associated with the remit of the Occupational Health service and role of Advisor, this includes: Undertaking pre-placement health assessments for identified employee groups, including cases escalated by the Band 5 Clinic Nurse; Undertaking clinical OH assessments following manager or HR referrals and providing evidence-based advice on fitness for work, adjustments, restrictions and return to work, with appropriate consent for assessment and report disclosure; Overseeing or undertaking risk-based staff immunisation and vaccination programmes, including seasonal influenza vaccination, within competence and appropriate authorisation; Managing sharps or splash injuries in line with SoG protocols; 2 Providing initial support following traumatic work-related events, recognising the limits of own competence and arranging onward referral to appropriate psychological or counselling services where indicated; Assisting with efficient contact tracing and follow up of employees exposed to infectious pathogens during their work; Managing a caseload of referrals, triaging clinical priorities and escalating complex cases or concerns to the Head of Occupational Health or Occupational Health Physician as appropriate. Comply with any current Service Level Agreements or specific arrangements regarding OH services. 2. To develop, oversee and evaluate risk-based health surveillance programmes for States of Guernsey departments and associated clients, informed by workplace risk assessments and applicable legislation. Provide clinical review of abnormal findings, advise on follow-up and workplace controls, and support Band 5 staff delivering surveillance within assessed competence. 3. To work autonomously as a specialist Occupational Health Practitioner, managing complex cases and exercising professional judgement within own competence, seeking advice from the Head of Occupational Health or Occupational Health Physician where clinically indicated. This includes analysing and interpreting complex clinical and occupational information to advise on fitness for work, continued employment and return to work, in accordance with relevant policies, guidance and legislation. 4. To line manage the allocated Band 5 Clinic Nurse, including induction, probation review, regular supervision, annual appraisal, workload allocation, attendance and performance management, with escalation to the Head of Occupational Health as appropriate. This includes identifying and supporting development needs, maintaining competency assessments and ensuring safe delegation within the individual’s role and scope of practice. 5. To support agreed development pathways for Band 5 staff, including preparation for specialist Occupational Health study where approved. This includes providing teaching and practice support within own qualifications and competence, and contribute to team learning, service improvement and accreditation activity. 6. To assist with development, implementation and evaluation of written procedures for all departmental activities, leading on policy development work at the request of the Head of Occupational Health. 7. To ensure employees receive appropriate advice, screening, vaccination and followup according to occupational risks, agreed protocols and States of Guernsey policies, including clinical oversight of relevant test results. 8. To liaise with primary care providers and specialists to obtain relevant clinical information with appropriate consent. Share proportionate, work-focused advice with managers and HR in accordance with consent, confidentiality and information governance requirements. 9. To oversee clinical equipment, medicines, vaccine storage and supplies, ensuring appropriate checks, maintenance and escalation of safety concerns in collaboration with the wider team. 3 10. To maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records in Civica OPAS G2 and support its effective use for referrals, assessments, reports, recalls and health surveillance. Contribute to clinical templates, workflow review, testing, staff training and data quality checks, escalating system or information governance concerns through agreed routes. 11. To undertake research, audit and quality assurance activity as determined by the Head of Occupational Health. Using OPAS G2 activity data and other relevant information to support service evaluation, management reporting and improvement, protecting identifiable clinical information. 12. To produce timely, accurate, evidence-based information for employees, managers and HR, and contribute to workplace wellbeing initiatives, health promotion and relevant training. 13. To comply with Occupational Health and States of Guernsey policies, procedures and applicable legislation, including confidentiality, consent and data protection requirements. Maintain safe infection prevention and control practice, report incidents and near misses, and contribute to learning and improvement. 14. To maintain current NMC registration and meet revalidation requirements, supported by continuing professional development, clinical supervision and reflective practice. Recognise and promptly escalate any concerns affecting safe practice.
